Dear Village OB,

Thank you for the fantastic prenatal care, for both of your presences and incredibly conscientious work to deliver Benjamin, and for checking on me with such kindness postpartum. I feel like you two so calmly managed B’s delivery through what (I feel) was a tough and longish labor, that he came out calm and strong. Thank you for practicing the way that you do. During pregnancy I got a lot of expectant questions about delivering with OBs, in a hospital setting: did I trust my doctors? (Uh, YES, hopefully everyone can) Why didn’t I go with midwives? (Found VOB first.) Was I going to go with/without drugs? (Who knows the answer to that?) I knew all along we had made the right decision to come to your practice and the end result, this delicious beautiful soft little boy who came out the old-fashioned way, to a loving family, and in particular to a mama who already feels 90% recovered (2 weeks later!!), is solid proof. Thank you thank you thank you and our best to Lourdes, Leanne, Efrat, Sara, and Anna.

I just wanted to let you know that William on Thursday, 8lbs 4oz and 39 weeks. Thank you SO much for everything, including your kindness and caring, tenacity with the version, and incredible follow-up medical care. Having a home birth clearly isn't for everyone, but I think it was definitely the best for me and my family, and we couldn't have done it without getting him turned. It was wonderful to be in bed afterwards and have my sisters visit and eat and not be in a hospital. I've attached some photos for your perusal. We think he's perfect, but we might be a little bit biased. Much appreciation and thanks-

Dear Village OB,

Oliver is now three months old and every time I look at him I realize what a miracle he is. Thank you so much for being a part of that miracle. Please enjoy the homemade cookies baked by Oliver's grandmother as a small token of our appreciation for all the hard work you do.

J and I cannot thank you enough for the high quality medial care you provided and the fact that you cared so much. During the entire journey everyone at Village OB was a pleasure to interact with. The friendly smiles of Lourdes and Leanne and the patience of Drs. Worth and Mussalli always made us feel welcome and comfortable. While in your care I always felt respected and an active participant in my care and for that I am truly grateful.

Even though the delivery did not go as planned (do they ever?) thanks to Dr. Worth's skills I had the birth experience I had hoped for. With Oliver in the NICU all 3 of use were in our most fragile state and helped us get through a very emotional time. Seeing your faces in the NICU always brought comfort and J and I are so grateful for the support you provided in those days. We are happy to report that Oliver's arm and neck are on their way to a full recovery and he weighs over 14 pounds.

Dear Doctors Worth and Mussalli,

We really don't know how to say thank you for the blazing you have given us. We met you when we were having an early miscarriage, and your compassion and thoughtfulness convinced us we wanted you to be our doctors for our next pregnancy.

In the very early days of our next pregnancy, you let us come visit you as often as we needed to get reassurance that everything was going well. As the pregnancy progressed you were ever patient when answering our many questions, and you listened to our views such as when we all decided to recalculate the due date. you gave us information and advice to empower us to make our own decisions about what was right for us and as we waited for our baby to arrive, that patience was there again as we gave him the time to arrive when he wanted to.

For the birth, you were there at the right moments, a calm and reassuring presence, to check the progress of the labor. You removed as much monitoring and tubing as possible to make it easy for me to get into whatever position I wanted to for pushing, and you were a reat coach throughout the delivery. All this contributed to a medication- free labor, with Dylan appearing just 3 hours after we arrived at the hospital. You helped give us an incredible, amazing birth experience.

As the real adventure begins, thank you for giving us the best possible start with our wonderful baby boy.

I just wanted to say thank you again for helping me through a really tough pregnancy and for making sure that I had an easy birth and recovery. We are all doing great now and as you'll see in the attached photo, Lilah, who is two months old already, is beautiful and happy. For his one-week birthday, Henry peed all over J this morning, just to make sure we understood there really is no problem! He has been doing great. He is eating well, has plumped up a little (not so dry, looks moist and pink all over), got a clean bill of health at his first pediatrician visit and he's cute as pie. Some pictures attached! Just writing to say "hi!" and share a recent photo of our juicy baby Ellis. He'll be 4 months on June 12 and looks about 6 months old. To think he was a mere 6.5 lbs when he popped out! Dear Drs. Worth and Mussalli,

I should have sent this thank you out a LONG time ago. Our family has
been so busy enjoying our beautiful addition that we haven't had a
chance to write in. We are so appreciative of all you did for us during
my pregnancy. I can't believe that it has already been almost 8 months
since the night my water broke at 33 weeks and I was sure I was headed
for induction and a tiny pre-term baby. I don't think there are any
other doctors in NYC who would have stood by our wishes and monitored
the pregnancy and my health over the two weeks it took for labor to begin.

Our absolutely perfect daughter was born naturally at 35 weeks and
weighed in at a respectable 6 lbs! We couldn't have been happier and we
will be grateful forever for all the work you did on our behalf. Here's
to all the other babies and mothers who are lucky enough to be in your care!

I cannot believe that almost a year has flown by since my Kaedon was born. Every day when I look at him, I think of all of you. I think of the love and care that was shown to me. You four are indeed family. I looked at him this morning before leaving him for work and purposed in my heart that today would be the day that I contacted you all. When I looked at him I realized just how much time has already passed, and I still have not written to thank you! It made me see that time really does not stand still for anyone. Writing you all has been on my things to do list since Kaedon was born...I apologize for the delay.

I want to thank ALL of you for everything. You didn’t just take phenomenal care of me, but you also took phenomenal care of my big sister. There really aren’t enough words to describe the level of gratitude that I have for all that you did for not only me…but my family. From the moment that I first contacted your office by phone you were nothing short of calming, caring and understanding. You ALL had a way of calming even the simplest of fears. You were kind, thoughtful, and courteous to all you encountered. I had so much stress and frustration associated with my pregnancy, and so much fear because of what happened to me the first two times around. But you were always extremely patient with me, indulging all my extreme question, and always putting my mind at ease.

I was a bit spoiled, because I was so sad when Kaedon was born, and my time with you had reached its end. But I was still able to stick around for an additional three months until my niece Ryanne was born. I thank GOD for all of you daily, and I pray that HE will continue to richly bless all of you with every desire that your heart may have. Both Kaedon and Ryanne are AMAZING children. They are happy, beautiful and SO smart. I have attached a picture of them for you. Kaedon is on the left. He is 11 months old now. Ryanne is 8 months old. We will stop by to visit you soon.

Dear Dr. Worth and Dr. Mussalli,

Thank you for allowing me to have another natural birth -- despite a breech baby! Lionel still had his bottom down by week 36 and showed no intention of turning around on his own. With outstanding skill and expertise, you performed a successful version, turning him head-down. Then, when my water broke at 37 weeks but labor did not start, you helped me along with a little cervical ripener and let me labor at my own pace. I gave birth to Lionel that afternoon, naturally and unmedicated, as I had wished. We now have a son and a daughter -- one delivered by Dr. Mussalli, the other by Dr. Worth -- and will be forever grateful for the excellent care I received. Hello Drs. Mussalli and Worth!

I can't tell you enough how great it was to see you both at the Concert for a Healthy Birth on Monday night. You both hold such a special place in our hearts that I was overwhelmed with emotion. I know I've said this before, but even now, two years later, I have to say again: Thank you for making me feel so safe and supported throughout a potentially scary ordeal. When I close my eyes and think of that day I see your smiling eyes above me and I hear Cara's voice whispering to me that everything is going well. I couldn't have asked for more.

Nicolas shows no signs of any stress in utero or birth whatsoever. He's such a happy, energetic toddler that in our neighbors and community refer to him as "The Mayor of Hoboken". He is a love with adults and children, but with a fiery temper to boot. I recently took my oldest son to meet a modeling agent, and Nico was with us. They fell in love with him and couldn't stop playing with him despite the fact that they were looking for ages 3 and up. So I guess they're both in! :) Of course, everyone thinks I'm his nanny...but, that's alright. :)

Here are some recent photos of him. We'll be sure and stop by and say hello next time we're in the neighborhood.

I'm so happy to know that you're both still practicing out of the Village office because I still send people there looking for you!! I guess the fact that they haven't come back to say they can't find you should have alerted me to the fact that you're still there.

I imagine your practice must be busier than ever so I'll end this email here.

Dear Dr. Worth and Dr. Mussalli,

I cannot believe that it has been eight weeks since little Ella was born. Seeing you both yesterday made me realize how much time has already passed, and I still have not written to thank you! It has been on my mental to do list for the last several weeks, but as the mother of a newborn (and a 2 year old) many things often slip my mind.

I want to thank you both so much for everything. Really words cannot describe how much I appreciate everything you did for me. From the moment I met you both, you have been nothing but kind, understanding, and respectful of me. I had so much stress and frustration associated with this pregnancy, and so much fear because of what happened to me the first time around. But you were both always so patient with me, answering all my crazy question, and always putting my mind at ease.

The calmness and “zen” you bring to your practice is so rare and special. And the care and respect you give your patients is equally rare. It is something that I have never experienced with any doctor, and I hope you both know how much I (and I’m sure many others) value that.

And I am so thankful to you both for advising me of my options, steering me in the right direction, but allowing me to come to the decision on my own (even though it took me a really long time to decide!!). I know now that we completely and totally made the right decision, and I have found the peace in that decision, largely because of you.

I am actually really sad to not be seeing you both every week any more. It almost makes me want to have another baby just so I can see your smiling faces. :) I also wanted to note that Lourdes, Leanne, Efrat, and Anna have all been amazing. You are lucky to have them on your staff.

We are writing to express our sincere thanks for your expert prenatal care and safe VBAC delivery of our son, Ellis. I'm sure you've heard this a million times before, but just to rub it in a bit, your patience is what really made it happen. Thank you for not being typical doctors and for allowing the birth process to happen as naturally as can be under any particular circumstances. Thank you for being more concerned for your patients' care than time or money. That is so very rare these days.

Dr. Worth, you had something encouraging to say at every point I felt like bailing, giving me a surge of energy and confidence to keep going. I felt like my body was ruined after the C-section with my first son and having this birth vaginally really helped me find closure in that healing process. My recovery was a breeze this time, I feel great, and Ellis and I are enjoying mommy & baby yoga together while my husband is still on parental leave. Stephen's mother passed away unexpectedly only a week after Ellis was born and had I have had to recover from another C-section, I don't know how I'd have coped while he was gone.

I knew when the two of you spent 2 hours with us one afternoon / evening the first time we met that your practice was different! I don't think any doctor has given me that much time in one go, let alone two at once!

I also want to add that we had a really great experience at Lenox Hill. The nursing staff was incredibly friendly and attentive-- quite a change from my experience at Roosevelt. Although I never got to experience St. Vincent's, I was thoroughly pleased to the point of surprise with Lenox Hill.

Thank you for your time, genuine concern, expertise, and healthy delivery of our baby boy. We could not have done it "our way" safely with any other doctor or midwife. We will be back for baby #3.

I had the privilege of meeting you at the time of my daughter N's birth of her twins in August 2009. Thanks for giving her and them just the birth N was hoping for. They are thriving. It is a gift to be able to be around twins.

I knew something of your interests, from the days when N found you, and it occurred to me that we can make changes in birth practices by setting examples, such as your practice does, and thereby drawing clients who are looking for what you provide. I then visited your web site and was pleased to fine that you include your (great, in my view), statistics.

We have grown vegetables commercially, using ecological methods only, for 30 years and have witnessed the power of customer choice, rather than regulation, in changing an industry. It feels that that a change for the better in birth practices can happen in the same way – a market driven approach.

a natural childbirth story

I just want to say that my wife and I just experienced the most amazing birth and it was all thanks to Dr Mussalli. My wife wanted a natural birth and we retained a doula, originally we were going to deliver at Cornell with another physician (will not reveal who out of courtesy). Our prior OB was okay with going natural but the other doctors in his practice were not, since we had no idea who would be on call when the baby came we decided to switch OBs.

Our doula suggested Dr. Mussalli and Worth, specifically how they let nature take its course and don't force Pitocin or Caesarans on anyone just to control the birth process. So in week 37, we switched. My wife went into labor last Sunday morning, March 6th, on her due date. After 15 hours of painful labor, we decided to go to Lenox Hill to have the baby. Our doula assumed that since the contractions were 2 min apart and 2 min in length, that she was at least 5 cm dilated. When we got to the hospital, we were SHOCKED to find out that she was only 1 cm dilated! (but 90% effaced).

Now here's what sets Dr Mussalli apart from EVERY OTHER OB in nyc: my wife wanted to go home to labor where she was comfortable. At 1cm, we all thought we had hrs to go. The contractions were also starting to space apart. Any other OB would have said to stay at the hospital. Dr Mussalli allowed us to do what my wife wanted: go home. He then went back to his office to wait (mind you this was now 11pm on a Sunday night and he doesn't live in the city). If you think you can find another OB in NYC that will let you do that, well then GOOD LUCK. We gave my wife a bath at home and literally in 2 hrs the contractions got much more severe. We rushed back to the hospital at 12:30 am to find Dr Mussalli waiting for us. Our baby was born just over one hour later at 1:41am on March 7th, 7 lbs 5 ounces and perfectly healthy. No intervention, no C-section, no pain meds. All natural, just what my wife wanted.

I can't thank Mussalli and Worth enough, they are a class apart and are what every OB in this country should strive to be.

Hello Dr. Worth and Dr. Mussalli!

I wanted to thank you both for an unbelievable experience with the birth of my twins on November 8, 2010.

I switched to your practice very late in my pregnancy - from another practice that was uncomfortable with twins in any presentation other than both head down. Even though my twins did end up both turning head down, I worried about having one vaginally and the other by c-section if the second baby happened to change its position during labor.

Well, that is more or less what happened. At 36 weeks, I woke up in labor. This was my second pregnancy, but I still did not believe things could happen this fast. I was shocked to learn when I got to the hospital that I was already 10 cm dilated and fully effaced, ready to push!

My baby girl came out head first. Then my baby boy sort of turned a bit transverse after her birth. Dr. Worth and Dr. Mussalli then turned him breech and pulled him out by his feet as I pushed.

I had a vaginal delivery - with just 20 minutes in between. This was just 3 hours after I had woken up with some mild cramping. I was at the hospital for less than 2 hours by the time both babies were born.

This was an amazing birth experience and I felt absolutely amazing immediately afterward and still do now, a little over a month later. I have two beautiful healthy babies and was able to have them vaginally with no fuss about it.

Thank you so much Drs. Worth and Mussalli! You enabled me to have a successful vbac-something I previously thought near impossible! Your kindness and belief that the laboring woman have a say in her own birth is really refreshing, and wonderful to see. Throughout the labor process, (all 3 days of it!) you stuck by me and tried your very best to give me the opportunity to have a natural delivery. And though most doctors would have given up and gone straight to c-section by day 2 of my labor, you stuck it out, monitored the baby, and took all the intuitive steps to get the baby out naturally. I can't thank you enough! many blessings to you and your wonderful practice. The world will be a better place if there were more doctors like you- who really listen!

We are so blessed to have Dr. Mussalli & Dr. Worth in our lives. They have made a huge impact on us during the birth of our first daughter Quinlan Hope. The level of care they gave to us is something that cannot be measured.

We had very much looked forward to doing a non-invasive, home birth at our apartment in New York. However, in week 37, our baby girl was still in a breech position. We met Dr. Mussalli & Dr. Worth through our midwife (Cara Muhlhahn) as we sought to get her to flip through an external version. We were touched by how dedicated both Dr. Mussalli & Dr. Worth were that day as we attempted not once, but twice to get Quinlan to turn. They took time out of their day (a Saturday, mind you...), when they had previous obligations, to come back after the first try and give it another go that same afternoon. We felt as though they really gave it everything to see us through and supported our desire to give our little girl a chance to turn and have a natural, home birth. Having not worked with them prior to the external version, they immediately impacted us. They demonstrated their gift as doctors to make us feel very well cared for, both in body and spirit.

Though we could not get her to flip after both attempts (she was quite comfortable just as she was), we felt comforted to know that we would be in good hands for a c-section. I had been afraid of getting a c-section because it was such major surgery, but Dr. Mussalli took such great care of me. I have since healed so well and am feeling great, now just five weeks after Quinlan's birth. Dr. Mussalli went over and above to make sure my treatment would properly prepare me for an attempt at vaginal birth in the future, should the opportunity arise.

Dr. Mussalli & Dr. Worth- We are overwhelmed by your generosity & look forward to when we can share this story with our little girl when she grows up. We couldn't have asked for a better birthing experience with you and we want to thank you for your heart towards us. You have truly meant the world to us and have inspired us by being a part of our story. It is hard to put into words how much you have made a difference in our life. You were an answer to so many of our prayers! We will forever have gratitude for what you have given us. Thank you so much!

I came to you looking for a different experience than my first pregnancy and birth and I remain in awe of how you choose to practice obstetrics.

You are more "hands-off" than many midwives, infinitely more caring than most doctors and office staff, and at every visit to your office, even with patients waiting, I was always made to feel like I was the most important person there.

You care for the individual, not just for the business of birth, and made yourselves accessible for every minor query, no matter how small, at all hours.

Through all the changes at St. Vincent's and the office, I never doubted in your care for me. I believe that the highest accolade I can give you is that I TRUSTED you every step of the way to care for me and give me the birth experience I wanted, which is exactly what I received.

It's hard to believe that it has already been two months since Cassius came into our lives. I wanted to write sooner with pictures but little Cash didn't give me the time. R and I would like to thank you for making his delivery everything that we wanted it to be. We were very happy being in your care for 9 months, especially in the last couple of months when we had to deal with two separate version attempts and labor that felt like it was stopping and starting for days on end. Your attention, caring, and humor (as evident in the picture you took with us of our last day in the hospital when you came in to find my husband, and not myself, in the hospital bed holding Cash) was much appreciated and something we will never forget. We are planning to move out of the state in the next few months so unfortunately our next pregnancy won't be with Village OB and it will be extremely hard to top. I wanted to thank you for being wonderful doctors! We had the exact birth experience I dreamed of and it was definitely with the expertise of the both you. My extreme ankle swelling went down the day completely by day 4 and look better than ever, I am thanking the breastfeeding for that one! I am also feeling fantastic and never imagined being this close to back to normal not even a week after the birth.

We live abroad, and when we were looking for ways to give birth in NY, things seemed to be tough for someone who seeks the natural way to deliver.

But we were incredibly lucky. From the moment I found Village Ob. I felt I was going to be in good hands... And it turned out to be much better experience than I could ever expect!

Under the great care of Dr. Worth and Dr. Mussali, Barry and Brooke, Leanne and Lourdes I felt confident, relaxed and happy all the way to and during the birth of our first son Michael on January 11th 2010. I am especially thankful to Dr. Worth who helped me through the last stages of delivery. For now, my story is one of the best "delivery" stories I ever heard. When I recall it, I feel like doing it again sometime soon - of course with Village OB.

Dear Dr. W,

Phoebe came on Saturday morning, 3 hours from the first
contraction--too fast for pain meds, despite your help sorting that
out--but slow enough to get to the hospital. Since the hospital is in
Vermont, there were mountains out the window, and extra nurses with
nothing to do except be nice to us. It was great. So far everyone's
doing really well.

Thank you so much for your support during this pregnancy. It made a
really big difference. I hope you meet the little one some day.
